Plot
The narrative centers on Shekhar and Suman, whose anticipated wedding takes an unforeseen twist on the eve of their marriage ceremony. Just before the Sangeet ceremony, Suman overhears Shekhar confiding in his friend that he doesn’t harbor feelings of love for her. Despite feeling devastated, Suman remains steadfast in her decision to call off the marriage. What unfolds next is a series of both amusing and poignant incidents as Shekhar endeavors to regain Suman’s trust and convince her of his genuine affection, all while their families fret over the confusion.
In “Lagan,” the tale of Ajya and Rajnandini serves as a lens through which the concept of “love across social classes” is explored. However, the plot has taken a divergent path, filled with numerous twists and turns, veering away from a straightforward narrative. Ajya’s mother insists that he pursue education and adhere to the protocols set by the authorities, emphasizing the belief that one’s prospects in life are closely tied to education. Nevertheless, their journey is marked by a multitude of unexpected events.
The Marathi film industry seems reluctant to move past the romantic story trend set by “Sairat.” Despite numerous attempts to offer unique narratives, there’s a persistent inclination to replicate the box office success of Nagraj Manjule’s film. “Lagan” is a recent example of this trend.
On the eve of their wedding, Shekhar and Suman’s relationship takes a drastic turn when Suman discovers Shekhar’s lack of genuine love for her, despite his outward excitement about the impending marriage. Heartbroken, she decides to call off the union, leading to a series of attempts by Shekhar to prove his love and salvage the relationship, with both families getting involved in the conflict.
Unfortunately, “Lagan” fails to inject much freshness into the storyline, leaving viewers expecting more depth from the performances. Despite potential, the film lacks the seriousness it needs to truly engage the audience.

Anil Nagarkar and Smita Tambe deliver honest performances in “Lagan.” However, the lead actors could benefit from some refinement. Their efforts are hindered by the predictable nature of the story.
