‘Speed Racer’ Actor Christian Oliver Passes away in Caribbean Plane Crash

On January 4, 2024, German actor Christian Oliver, who was best known for his role in the Cobra 11 television series, among others, passed away at the age of 51 after a small plane crashed into the ocean off a Caribbean island.

The plane was also carrying his two young daughters, who also died in the crash, along with the owner and pilot of the plane, identified as Robert Sachs.

As per authorities, on the afternoon of January 4, 2024, at around 12:11 p.m., the single-engine plane took off from J.F. Mitchell Airport in Bequia, a small island and part of the Caribbean nations of St. Vincent and Grenadines and was headed to nearby St. Lucia when it crashed.

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force reported that the aircraft had issues and crashed into the ocean. Paget Farm fishermen and divers rushed to the scene of the crash in their boats to help. The SVG Coast Guard was notified and immediately dispatched to Paget Farm, Bequia, to lead the rescue attempts. The remains were retrieved from the aircraft/ocean by Coast Guard officials and later pronounced deceased by a medical practitioner. The remains were taken by Coast Guard vessel to St. Vincent and sent to the Kingstown Mortuary, where post-mortem assessments are scheduled to be performed to determine the cause of death.

The four bodies were identified as those of the actor, his 10-year-old daughter Madita Klepser, his 12-year-old daughter Annik Klepser, and the owner of the plane.

In a statement on social media, the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said,

“The RSVGPF expresses condolences to all who are negatively affected by this tragic incident. The RSVGPF will update the public as more information is gathered. Investigation into the matter continues.”
