‘Zone of Interest’ wins Best Picture of 2023 At Toronto Film Critics Association

The Toronto Film Critics Association has selected ‘The Zone of Interest’ as the best picture of the year. The director of the 2023 historical drama film, Jonathan Glazer, was awarded the Best Director trophy.
The harrowing Holocaust drama, which is loosely based on the 2014 namesake novel Martin Amis, bagged the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival and the FIPRESCI prize. It was also picked by BAFTA to represent the United Kingdom in the category formerly known as best foreign language film at the Oscars.
The runners-up for the Best Picture of the Year award include ‘All of Us Strangers’ and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, while the runners-up for the best director award were Martin Scorsese for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, and Justine Triet for the crime thriller ‘Anatomy of a Fall.’
The Toronto Film Critics Association gave the best lead performance awards to Sandra Huller for ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ and Lily Gladstone for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ The best supporting performance awards were presented to Ryan Gosling for ‘Barbie’ and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for ‘The Holdovers.’
The Breakthrough Performance award was given to Teyana Taylor for ‘A Thousand and One,’ while the Outstanding Performance in a Canadian Film award was presented to Glenn Howerton for ‘BlackBerry.’
Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig bagged the Best Original Screenplay award for ‘Barbie’, and the Best Adapted Screenplay was awarded to Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’
The other awardees include ‘Robot Dreams’, which bagged the award for Best Animated Feature; ’20 Days in Mariupol’, which won the Allan King Documentary Award; Fallen Leaves, which was awarded Best International Feature; and ‘Rye Lane’, which was named Best First Feature.
