Universal Pictures Secures Rights for Olivia Wilde-Directed Christmas Comedy “Naughty”

In a festive surprise just before the holiday season, Universal Pictures unwrapped a delightful present – the rights to the Christmas comedy “Naughty,” directed by Olivia Wilde and produced by LuckyChap. The film, described as “Bridesmaids in the North Pole,” follows Mallory’s quest to convince Santa Claus to testify in her divorce hearing against her gaslighting ex.
Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap, alongside Wilde and the film’s spec writer Jimmy Warden, are set to produce the anticipated holiday flick. Universal’s winning bid in a competitive auction sealed the deal for the studio.
With Wilde’s recent success with “Don’t Worry Darling” and LuckyChap’s triumph with “Barbie,” earning over $1.44 billion worldwide, the collaboration is highly anticipated. Wilde is also attached to direct a limited series adaptation of Jennifer Egan’s novels for A24.
For Warden, known for the hit comedy “Cocaine Bear,” this marks a reunion with Universal, showcasing the studio’s continued interest in his creative ventures. The upcoming film is set to add another festive gem to Universal’s cinematic lineup.
