Andrew Scott Nominates Paul Mescal as Potential James Bond Successor Amidst Fierce Competition

In a recent interview with Variety, acclaimed Fleabag star Andrew Scott has thrown his support behind Normal People’s Paul Mescal as the ideal candidate to step into the iconic shoes of James Bond. Scott expressed confidence in Mescal’s ability, stating, “He’d probably be a great James Bond.” However, he humorously insisted, “I want to see him in Gladiator first.”

With Daniel Craig bidding farewell to the Bond franchise in “No Time to Die,” fans are eagerly awaiting news on his successor. Among the speculated contenders are Aaron Taylor-Johnson from Bullet Train, Daniel Kaluuya, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, John Boyega, and Sam Heughan. Despite the rumors, the coveted role remains unassigned.

Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson provided some insight into their preferences for the next Bond, emphasizing the need for a candidate who can commit to the role for a decade and a Bond in their thirties. This criterion aligns with Mescal’s profile, making him a strong contender for the coveted role.

However, the race to cast the next 007 may be time-sensitive, as Mescal is currently highly sought after in the entertainment industry. The actor is slated to portray Lucius Verus II in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator sequel. Scott, in the same Variety interview, expressed his anticipation for Mescal’s performance, declaring, “It’s gonna be incredible. I’ve seen some images that are going to delight the world over.” In the original Gladiator movie, Lucius is the young son of Lucilla, Maximus’ lover, and nephew of the villainous Roman Emperor Commodus.
