Paresh Rawal Steps into Soumitra Chatterjee’s Shoes in Virudh Shastry, Expresses Strong Affection for Family-Centric Films

Renowned actor Paresh Rawal, known for his versatility, recently took on a new challenge by joining the cast of Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s film, Virudh Shastry. In this Hindi adaptation of the Bengali film Posto, Rawal had the daunting task of stepping into the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee’s shoes. Despite not having seen Posto willingly, Rawal, a self-proclaimed fan of Chatterjee, acknowledged the lasting impact of the late actor’s performances on the mind.

Speaking about his experience with Virudh Shastry, which features co-stars Neena Kulkarni, Shiv Panditt, and Mimi Chakraborty, Rawal expressed a deep connection to the film. “I really loved the story, and I found it relatable. The relationship between a grandparent and their grandchild is quite emotional and much more profound than between a father and son. This is a family entertainer and quite rooted. Something you can watch with your family. It’s real, and you won’t find anything fictional,” he remarked.

Rawal emphasized his conscious decision to avoid projects featuring vulgar content, stating, “Yes, it’s a conscious decision. I hate any kind of vulgar content. A lot of our families were stuck at home during the lockdown, and the kind of films that were releasing on OTT platforms…bewajah gaaliyan aati thi…it made no sense. Now where will families go with all of their stress? Mujhe toh ghinn aati hain…I avoid such information since it makes me feel disgusted. Anything obscene or using unneeded profanity bothers me. I like to stay away from such subjects.”
