Sean Penn Fondly Remembers Matthew Perry as a Talented and Courageous Friend

In a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, actor Sean Penn reflected on the late Matthew Perry, describing him as a “talented guy” and expressing admiration for his courage in facing personal challenges. Penn, who shared the screen with Perry in two episodes of Friends back in 2001, revealed that their paths crossed at Los Angeles airport not long ago.

Although Penn admitted to not knowing Perry well, he spoke highly of him, stating, “I liked him very much.” He recalled a conversation during which he complimented Perry on his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” which candidly delves into Perry’s prolonged struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.

While Penn confessed that he hadn’t read the book, he emphasized having seen “several” interviews in which Perry discussed his work. According to Penn, Perry approached the topic intelligently and boldly, generously sharing his experiences to help others. Penn acknowledged the tragic nature of Perry’s passing, expressing that he wasn’t terribly surprised, considering the actor’s well-documented health struggles.

Perry’s memoir not only shed light on his personal battles but also showcased his intelligence and willingness to confront and discuss his challenges openly. Penn highlighted the impact Perry had on the world, leaving behind a story and bringing joy to countless people through his talent. Perry passed away at the age of 54 at his Pacific Palisades home, and as of now, an official cause of death has yet to be determined. Penn concluded by extending his well wishes to Perry’s family in the wake of this loss.
