Stay tuned, as we’ll be diving into episode-by-episode reviews, sharing all the highs, lows, and everything in between. May the Force be with us as we embark on this new galactic adventure!

Episode 1 sets the stage 100 years before the Empire’s rise, during a time of peace. We dive into a story brimming with intrigue and danger, kicking off with Mae(Amandla Stenberg), an assassin with a secretive command of the Force. Her encounter with Jedi Master Indara(Carrie-Anne Moss) in Ueda is tense, culminating in a gripping battle. The episode showcases Mae’s ruthless efficiency as she kills Indara, hinting at deeper, darker motives.

Meanwhile, we meet Osha(Lauren Brady) aboard a ship with her droid, Pip, and colleague, Fillick(Anthony J. Abraham). Their mission to extinguish a fire in space adds an odd yet amusing touch, highlighting Osha’s resourcefulness. Her past with the Jedi and the mysterious death of Indara cast a shadow over her, leading to her arrest after a dramatic confrontation.

On the prison ship, Osha’s escape attempt is thwarted, but she eventually breaks free, crash-landing on a snowy planet. The Jedi Council’s involvement, especially Masters Sol(Lee Jung-jae) and Vernestra(Rebecca Henderson), adds layers to the unfolding mystery as they track Osha, believing she’s tied to Indara’s murder.

The episode ends with Osha having a vision of her sister Mae, who confirms Indara’s death and threatens more. Despite being just a dream, this vision intensifies the stakes. As Osha is taken into custody, the reveal that Mae is alive leaves us on a suspenseful note.

Leslye Headland delivers a gripping start, blending mystery and action effectively. The episode’s strength lies in its character dynamics and the ominous undertones of the plot. Mae’s cold efficiency and Osha’s troubled past set a compelling narrative that hooks us in from the beginning.

However, the episode isn’t without its flaws. Some scenes, like the space fire, stretch believability, and the dialogue occasionally feels repetitive. Yet, these are minor issues in an otherwise strong premiere.

‘The Acolyte’ shows promise with its dark, intricate storyline and well-developed characters. If it continues on this trajectory, we’re in for a thrilling ride. Stay tuned for more episode reviews as we unravel this galactic mystery together!
