Rashmika Mandanna Backs Deepika Padukone’s Call for an 8-Hour Workday on Film Sets

The actress opens up about the importance of sustainable work hours and calls for balanced schedules for everyone in the film industry

Amid ongoing discussions sparked by Deepika Padukone’s statement advocating for an eight-hour workday on film sets, Rashmika Mandanna has now voiced her agreement with the idea. The popular Telugu and pan-Indian actress highlighted the need for more structured working hours in the film industry, pointing out that excessive work can take a toll on both physical and mental health over time.

In a recent interview, Rashmika admitted that she often overworks herself and called the habit “not sustainable.” She said, “Do what is comfortable for you. Get those 8 hours or 9 or 10 hours also, because trust me, that’s going to save you later.” She acknowledged that many people in the industry, including herself, often push beyond healthy limits due to professional obligations, but emphasized that this mindset needs to change.

Rashmika explained that while she understands the need to meet production deadlines and manage limited shoot locations, she believes both actors and crew members deserve balanced hours. “If I could choose for myself, I would say, please don’t make us actors do that. Not just actors, but lightmen, directors, and everyone. Like how offices have 9-to-5 or 9-to-4 jobs, let us have that,” she said.

She further shared that maintaining a work-life balance is not just about comfort—it’s about long-term well-being. “There is still a family life I want to focus on. Later on, I don’t want to regret that I should’ve worked out and been healthy when I was younger,” Rashmika added.

Rashmika’s statement comes as several industry insiders have begun reflecting on the demanding schedules that define filmmaking in India. The debate gained momentum after reports that Deepika Padukone stepped away from certain projects due to disagreements over long working hours. Rashmika’s remarks add significant weight to the growing call for regulated, humane working conditions in the entertainment industry.

Her stance also sheds light on the need to stop glorifying overwork—a culture that has long been normalized in the film world. With top actors now speaking up about sustainable schedules, the conversation could mark the beginning of a shift towards better health, productivity, and creativity across sets.
