Ranbir Kapoor on Embracing the Unfamiliar: The Transformation for ‘Animal’

The actor discusses the allure of challenging roles and his upcoming projects.

Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of the intense and volatile Ranvijay in ‘Animal’ marked a significant departure from his previous roles. In a recent interview at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2024, the actor delved into the process of taking on such a demanding character.

When asked about his criteria for choosing scripts, Kapoor emphasized the importance of a unique story and the gut instinct of the filmmaker. He revealed that ‘Animal’ was a prime example of a role that pushed him beyond his comfort zone: “You hear a part, and it’s so far out from what you are, like ‘Animal,’ for example. When I heard the part, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m not this person, but I would love to be a part of this world.'”

Kapoor explained that the challenge of the role was what drew him to it. He credited director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for providing him with the opportunity to explore new depths as an actor. “It’s very important that you keep reinventing yourself, keep changing, surprising yourself,” he added.

Beyond ‘Animal,’ Kapoor has an impressive slate of projects lined up. He is set to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana and is currently filming ‘Love & War’ with his wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Additionally, he is reuniting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for an upcoming magnum opus and has been cast in the highly anticipated ‘Dhoom 4.’

With his diverse range and willingness to take on unconventional roles, Ranbir Kapoor continues to captivate audiences and solidify his position as one of Bollywood’s most talented actors.
