Nushrratt Bharuccha Broke Her Own Taboos to Embrace a Bikini Scene in Pyaar Ka Punchnama

Before filming, the actress took a solo trip abroad to overcome her discomfort, wearing a bikini for three days straight to gain confidence.

Before she became a confident onscreen presence in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Nushrratt Bharuccha had to battle a personal hurdle — wearing a bikini on camera. While the film, directed by Luv Ranjan, showcased her as a bold and modern character, Nushrratt recently opened up about how that image didn’t come naturally to her at the time.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, the Chhorii 2 actress candidly shared that she wasn’t initially comfortable wearing a bikini during the shoot. “I didn’t have the courage,” she admitted, explaining that unless she has experienced something in real life, she finds it difficult to portray it authentically onscreen. At that point in her life, she had never worn a bikini, let alone acted confidently in one.

When she voiced her concerns to director Luv Ranjan, she said, “Sir, the problem is that I won’t feel comfortable in this. Even if I wear it, I will be uncomfortable. So, how will I do it in your shot? How can I be confident?”

Determined not to let this barrier hold her back, Nushrratt took matters into her own hands. She embarked on a solo trip abroad and made it a point to wear a bikini everywhere — beaches, hotels, even breakfast lounges — for three consecutive days. This deliberate exposure helped her grow more at ease with the idea. “I did it consciously because I wanted to break my own mind and my own taboo,” she said. The experience, which she called liberating, helped her forget all her inhibitions once she returned to the set.

For those who need a refresher, Pyaar Ka Punchnama was a breakout film that also introduced Kartik Aaryan to the audience and starred Divyendu Sharma, Raayo S. Bakhirta, Sonnalli Seygall, and Ishita Raj Sharma. Its success led to a sequel in 2015.

Nushrratt Bharuccha was most recently seen in Chhorii 2, a horror film that co-starred Soha Ali Khan.
