Elizabeth Olsen Says She’d Always Return to the MCU, Even After Scarlet Witch’s Apparent Demise
At the Hamptons International Film Festival, Olsen reflected on her decade-long journey as Wanda Maximoff and revealed she still feels there are untold stories left for the Scarlet Witch.

At this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival, Elizabeth Olsen made it clear that she isn’t ready to close the book on her Marvel journey just yet. Speaking during a panel for her new film Eternity, Olsen said she “always” wants to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing her connection to Wanda Maximoff as deeply personal.
“It’s something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to,” she said, adding that the past few years gave her a chance to explore sides of the character she never imagined. Olsen also hinted that there are still storylines from the comics she’d love to bring to life — ones that fans are equally eager to see.
Reflecting on her time in the MCU, Olsen admitted that while audiences might experience superhero fatigue, working on such massive projects has its own kind of magic. “We might culturally get a little bit exhausted by them,” she said, “but there’s something about these franchises that becomes very familial. There’s nothing else really like it.”

Olsen first appeared as Wanda Maximoff — better known as the Scarlet Witch — in a mid-credits scene from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). Over the years, she became one of the MCU’s most complex characters, even earning an Emmy nomination for her performance in WandaVision (2021). Her last on-screen appearance was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), where her character seemingly met her end. But as Marvel fans know, death is rarely permanent in the multiverse.
Discussing the consistency that comes with returning to such a long-running franchise, Olsen said, “It feels good. Job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that.” She also acknowledged that Marvel has provided her the creative freedom to choose more personal projects like Eternity, which she described as a “rewarding shift” in her career.
Eternity, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, is set for a limited theatrical release on November 14 before expanding nationwide on November 26.
