Amitabh Bachchan Skips Sunday Jalsa Meet, Begins Shooting for Kalki 2 With Kamal Haasan in Hyderabad
Big B apologises to fans for missing his weekly greeting ritual as he reunites with Kamal Haasan after decades for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.

Every Sunday, megastar Amitabh Bachchan continues his decades-old tradition of greeting fans outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa. The ritual, which has become an emotional connect point between the actor and his admirers, saw a rare pause this week as Bachchan was away in Hyderabad for work commitments. Despite informing fans in advance that he wouldn’t be present, a sea of well-wishers still gathered outside his home—hoping for even a glimpse of their beloved star.
Taking to his personal blog, Bachchan shared heartfelt images of fans waiting outside Jalsa and expressed both gratitude and regret. He revealed that he is currently shooting for the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, one of Indian cinema’s biggest sci-fi spectacles. Sharing behind-the-scenes moments from the set, he posted a warm picture of himself embracing Kamal Haasan, marking a significant reunion.
The two legends last shared screen space in the 1985 action drama Geraftaar. While both actors appeared in the first installment of Kalki 2898 AD, they did not have scenes together. The sequel, however, promises to bring them face-to-face on screen after nearly four decades—something fans of both superstars are eagerly anticipating.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD is set in a dystopian future and blends Indian mythology with high-concept science fiction. The first film featured an ensemble cast including Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2024. Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwatthama was particularly praised, with many critics and viewers highlighting his commanding screen presence and emotional depth.
In his blog note, the veteran actor apologised to fans, writing that work commitments had to take priority but assured them of his return to the Sunday ritual soon. He also expressed joy at collaborating again with Kamal Haasan, calling the moment special after such a long gap.
As production on the highly anticipated sequel begins, expectations are sky-high—not just for its visual grandeur and storytelling ambition, but also for the historic on-screen reunion of two cinematic titans.
