Alicia Silverstone to Lead Acorn TV’s New Mystery Drama “Irish Blood”

Set in Dublin, the six-part series follows a Los Angeles lawyer’s journey to uncover family secrets and rediscover herself.

Alicia Silverstone is stepping into a leading role for the upcoming Acorn TV series Irish Blood. The six-part drama, currently filming in and around Dublin, will consist of six one-hour episodes and boasts a star-studded cast that includes Wendy Crewson, Jason O’Mara, Dearbhla Molloy, Simone Kirby, Ruth Codd, and Leonardo Taiwo.

Speaking about her new role, Silverstone shared, “Irish Blood is the story of a woman on a journey of self-discovery, unexpectedly confronting her past. I love how the story weaves together drama, humor, and suspense, making my character’s experience unpredictable and compelling.”

Silverstone plays Fiona Sharpe, a successful Los Angeles divorce lawyer whose life is turned upside down after she receives a letter from her estranged father. The series synopsis reveals that Fiona’s life has been shaped by the belief that her father, Declan, abandoned her and her mother on her tenth birthday. Years of anger have fueled her career, benefiting her litigious clients.

However, when a message from her father arrives, she heads to Ireland, where she discovers startling truths: not only did her father’s disappearance hide a dark past involving shady business dealings, but the story of his abandonment was fabricated to protect Fiona and her mother. Now, Fiona is determined to unravel the full truth and reconnect with the father she thought she knew.

The show comes from a team of seasoned writers, including Aaron Martin, Christina Ray, Mike O’Leary, and John Krizanc. It is directed by Molly McGlynn and executive produced by a lineup that includes Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Paul Donovan, and Silverstone herself.

Rob Fox, AMC Networks’ executive vice president of production, expressed excitement about the project, noting that “Irish Blood combines smart writing with a modern, witty tone that will keep audiences guessing right until the end.” He also praised Silverstone’s performance, adding, “Her depth and charm bring new layers to the character of Fiona.”

Silverstone, beloved for her iconic role in Clueless, has built a diverse career with performances in films such as The Crush, Batman & Robin, and most recently Reptile. She has just completed work on Bugonia, a new film from acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos.
