Episode 2 picks up on Day 3, shifting focus to Jamie’s school, where tensions are running high. Tommy and Ryan, Jamie’s friends, are visibly nervous. Tommy avoids talking, following his parent’s warnings, while Ryan keeps pressing about the knife, worried Jamie will take all the blame. Meanwhile, DI Bascombe’s son, Adam, is bullied by a classmate, Fredo, mirroring the deeper themes of the series.

The school staff dismisses concerns about safety and frustrating parents. A group of older students even discuss harming Jamie for what he did to Katie. The police question Katie’s friend, Jade, about her connection to Jamie. She is furious, insisting Katie hated Jamie and scoffing at the idea that they were friends. The cops remain unconvinced, as Katie’s social media activity suggests otherwise. Without a murder weapon or a clear motive, Bascombe pushes for more answers.

Before they can interview another class, the fire alarm suddenly blares. Teachers assume it’s a false alarm, exposing their careless attitude toward student safety. Amid the chaos, Jade picks a fight with Ryan, accusing him of being a murderer. Tommy panics and runs. Ryan, overwhelmed, begins dodging Bascombe’s questions about the knife.

Later, Jade breaks down in class. Her teacher suggests therapy, but she storms out, feeling misunderstood. Meanwhile, Adam approaches his father and reveals a shocking truth—Katie has been cyberbullying Jamie. She left emojis on his posts, calling him an “incel.” Bascombe struggles to process this revelation, realizing his son might be going through similar issues.

Determined to get answers, Bascombe corners Ryan, who finally confesses—the knife was his, and Jamie was only supposed to scare Katie. With this new evidence, Bascombe arrests Ryan for conspiracy to murder and officially charges Jamie. As school ends, Eddie silently places flowers at the crime scene, hinting at his growing doubts about his son’s innocence.

The second episode tightens the grip on the investigation while exposing the toxic environment within Jamie’s school. The one-shot execution remains impressive, keeping us immersed in the tension. Conversations flow naturally, and even minor interactions feel significant.

The school itself feels like a breeding ground for trouble, students are brash, teachers are indifferent, and bullying is ignored. The revelation that Katie had bullied Jamie adds complexity to the case. Was Jamie a victim who snapped, or is there more to his story?

With Ryan’s confession and Jamie’s fate sealed, the episode leaves us questioning everything. Adolescence continues to deliver gripping, thought-provoking storytelling.
