PLOT

Manas (Kapil Sharma) left his position as a factory floor manager to work as a delivery driver for a food delivery service. The film follows his routine, filled with assessments, fines, and rewards for finishing late. When his wife Pratima decides to work as a cleaner at a mall, things get problematic in their otherwise happy family life.

While the first half created the universe at its own pace, the second half advances events gradually, often dragging them out. Some scenes, such as the protest by activist Govindraj, the targeting of a man of a different faith, etc., seem a little forced.

REVIEW

It is a story of a poor guy navigating his life by Nandita Das and Samir Patil. The movie is more negatively impacted than positively by scenes showing a Muslim delivery man terrified to deliver food to a temple and a person rejected from a government job because of his caste. The movie follows Manas’s everyday struggle as his wife works to sustain the family financially despite his opposition.

A relevant story is skillfully presented by Nandita and co-writer Samir Patil. The real-life background of Kapil Sharma aids in empathizing with Manas’ naivety, yet at times, his reputation as a “comedy master” can work against him. Sometimes, he’s acting more artificially than naturally. The film’s realism is enhanced by excluding Odisha’s grand monuments and exotic beauty. With Yeh Raat playing, the stop-motion animation throughout the credits is particularly noteworthy.

The background music by Sagar Desai is as understated as it gets, perfectly enhancing the story. Hitesh Sonik excels once more and is likely the only person who can provide a spooky BGM. Yeh Raat, the movie starring his wife, Sunidhi Chauhan, gives the film the ideal amount of melancholy.

Moreover, class and gender inequality are delicately covered in the film. Even though it is well known that politics, the social system, and the economy are intertwined, Zwigato includes too much. The narrative’s flow could be better since it appears to be a collection of related events.

Rating: 2.5/5

You can become impatient as the movie progresses slowly. But because of its purpose and excellent acting, it’s worth watching. These characteristics contribute to its rating.

Nandita Das is the film’s director. Sameer Nair, Deepak Segal, and Nandita Das are the producers. Kapil Sharma, Shahana Goswami, Tushar Acharya, and Sayani Gupta are among the cast members. On March 17, 2023, the movie was released in theaters. Soon, it will be available on OTT platforms.
