This movie strikes a balance between paying homage to its original and offering a fresh, modern take. It incorporates actual meteorological terminology, adding authenticity. The tornado and destruction scenes are shockingly realistic and intense, while the love story is sweet without being overly sentimental. Overall, the film earns a solid 3.5 stars out of 5.

Review

The narrative follows Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a former storm chaser drawn back into the world of tornado hunting. Her team comprises highly qualified, corporate-sponsored meteorologists, led by her former lover, Javi (Anthony Ramos), who has developed groundbreaking tracking technology. Kate’s path crosses with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a charismatic yet perilous social media star obsessed with gaining YouTube views. Despite their rivalry, both teams often unite to aid tornado victims.

The film features breathtaking tornado visuals, daring stunts, and a somewhat predictable plot. However, the CGI work stands out for its realistic depiction of tornadoes, with the graphic designers capturing the intricate details of funnel clouds, mesocyclones, and updrafts, showcasing a high level of accuracy.

Director Lee Isaac Chung, along with writers Mark L. Smith, Joseph Kosinski, and Michael Crichton, creates a compelling backdrop of nature’s fury. Glen Powell’s performance exudes movie star charisma, and his chemistry with Daisy Edgar-Jones is palpable. The supporting cast also delivers strong performances, rounding out this engaging film.
