Plot

Muthuvel Pandiyan, a retired jailer, launches a manhunt to track down his son’s killers. However, the path takes him to a well-known location that is a little bit darker. Can Muthuvel successfully navigate this difficult situation? Watch the film to find out.

Jailer’s second half was subpar due to its flimsy plot. Rajini’s humour and stage antics made the first half entertaining, but the second half lacked the same energy. In the second hour, the filmmaker was at a loss for how to keep the movie engaging and turned to a few comedy songs, which didn’t work.

Review

It’s encouraging to see Superstar Rajinikanth in a significant role at last. Nelson created his identity effectively. Rajinikanth underplays for the duration of the first half, but as the film progresses, he becomes a scary presence. The interval block is fantastic, and this has been superbly demonstrated.

Following Rajinikanth, Anirudh gave Superstar a strong soundtrack, which significantly improved it. Vinayakan, Vasanath Ravi, Ramya Krishna, and Mirnaa Menon all performed their roles satisfactorily. The star value is increased by cameo appearances by celebrities like Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Kishore.

For the much-needed drama and excitement, keep an eye out for the conclusion with Shivarajkumar and Mohanlal. The scenes featuring Tamannaah and Sunil’s characters don’t improve the movie. The weak story prevented the action scenes from providing the necessary adrenaline surge.

A talented actor like Ramya Krishnan not having anything to say or feel in the movie is frustrating. Throughout the entire movie, Vasanth Ravi uses only one expression. Vinayakan’s bloodshot eyes put on a spectacular performance. The film is elevated by Anirudh Ravichander’s background score, but the songs are just marginally memorable.

Vijay Kartik’s cinematography was passable. The production values are strong. A couple of passages in the second half need to have been cut by the editing staff. The film is fairly long, and the second hour is particularly difficult to sit through because of the drag.

Ratings: 3/5

The film features a large cast and Rajinikanth’s unrivaled on-screen appeal. The skilled director has once again displayed his abilities in this superb entertainer that is jam-packed with humor, action, and sentiment. Keep your expectations in check because it turns out to be just an okay viewing. A rating of 3 out of 5 stars was given due to these factors.

The jailer’s director is Nelson Dilipkumar. Tamannaah, Jackie Shroff, Siva Rajkumar, Mohan Lal, and Rajinikanth all play significant parts. The producer is Sun Pictures’ Kalanithi Maran. The film premiered on August 10, 2023. A 45–60 day window is anticipated between the theatrical and OTT releases of the film.
