Plot
Jaime Reyes unexpectedly gets an old alien gadget called the Scarab. When the Scarab picks Jaime to be its partner, he gets a fantastic suit of armour with unique abilities. This completely changes his future as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.
The filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto works hard to ensure his movie stands out and feels new. Having a Mexican writer, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, write the script has kept the Latino feel. The dialogue is well-balanced between Spanish and English, without one language overpowering the essence. Pawel Pogorzelski takes some awesome-looking shots of a kid experiencing the First-Person View (FPV) and becoming a superhero for the first time, among other things.
Review
Xolo Maridueña puts a lot of emotion and charm into playing Jaime Reyes and Blue Beetle. You can feel how dedicated he is to his outstanding performance. Jaime impresses a lot through Maridueña and is an excellent addition to the DC Universe. Both the character and the actor have a bright future ahead. Susan Sarandon brings her unique style, but unfortunately, she is only given a generic role as a power-hungry villain named Victoria Kord. Carapax, the villain, is more convincing when he has sad reasons for his actions. However, the emotional connection is not as strong once he puts on his mask.
Blue Beetle is better when it focuses on the Reyes family and doesn’t get too involved with the more prominent villains. The movie’s family values come from Latin American culture, which the director Angel Manuel Soto celebrates. This adds worth to the script, giving it a unique style. Every family member has an important job and a turn to be noticed and recognized. George Lopez is a hilarious comedian who always does a great job. Adriana Barraza’s character, a super energetic and funny grandma, is especially memorable.

However, this origin story is similar to some others. It copies a lot of other movies that have already done this. But that’s not entirely a negative aspect because the waySome of the visual effects in the film look rough and incomplete, especially in a crucial scene. The superhero outfit looks perfect, and how they change into their superhero form is cool.
This means that the score is two and half out of five, and it is because of these reasons.
