Zoë Kravitz Denies Epstein Connection in ‘Blink Twice’
Director Reiterates Metaphorical Nature of the movie starring Channing Tatum

Zoë Kravitz has addressed concerns about the similarities between a character in her directorial debut, “Blink Twice,” and the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. In an interview with IndieWire, Kravitz clarified that the film is a metaphor and not a direct portrayal of Epstein’s life.
The film, starring Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie, centers around a billionaire who lures a young woman to a secluded island. The plot has drawn comparisons to Epstein’s infamous private island. However, Kravitz insists that the character is not based on any real-life individual.

“It’s all a metaphor,” Kravitz explained. “It’s not so literal. That [Epstein] situation came out not even halfway through writing [Blink Twice].” She added that the film’s island setting was chosen to isolate the characters and explore themes of power, abuse, and societal norms.
Kravitz also emphasized the film’s relevance in light of the #MeToo movement. “The subject matter is so ancient,” she said. “It’s power, the oppression of women. It’s the most basic things in the world. And yet it feels so current.”

While the film has faced scrutiny due to its thematic similarities, Kravitz hopes that audiences will see it as a broader exploration of power dynamics and the experiences of women. “This story is so personal to me in terms of exploring what it feels like to be a woman,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I remember talking to Naomi [Ackie] about our relationships with power and what it feels like being told to be invisible, and it was a relief to realize, ‘Oh, you vibe with this.'”
“Blink Twice” is set to hit theaters on August 23.
