Vicky Kaushal’s Humble Upbringing Shaped His Path to Stardom in Bollywood

Vicky Kaushal, the Bollywood sensation, has solidified his position as one of the most reliable and sought-after actors in the industry. With a career spanning since 2012, it was the success of Aditya Dhar’s “Uri: The Surgical Strike” that catapulted him to overnight stardom. Despite his fame, Vicky’s grounded and down-to-earth nature can be attributed to the thoughtful upbringing provided by his parents.

The son of veteran action director Sham Kaushal and homemaker Veena Kaushal, Vicky’s Bollywood journey began as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap’s “Gangs Of Wasseypur.” However, it wasn’t until 2015 that he made his acting debut with “Masaan,” later becoming a part of notable projects such as “Raman Raghav 2.0” and “Sanju,” before achieving widespread recognition for his role in “Uri.”

In a candid interview with Film Companion, Vicky Kaushal reminisced about his days of struggle. He attributed his grounded values to his parents’ teachings. “My parents always emphasized the difference between necessity and luxury,” he shared. “They taught both Sunny and me that necessities would be provided, but luxury is something we must earn ourselves. That demarcation was always there.”

Recalling his college days and time as an assistant director, Vicky shared an insightful anecdote about his family’s second car. “Even though we had a second car at home, I was never allowed to drive it unless I had to take my mom to her yoga classes. For my job, auditions, or even going to Anurag sir’s office, I had to take public transport like a bus or an auto. Solo-driving a car was something I had to earn.”
