Universal Joins Forces with Lionsgate for Michael Jackson Biopic
In a recent announcement on Tuesday, Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International have unveiled a strategic partnership for the highly-anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, aptly titled “Michael.” The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the iconic pop superstar, in a role that has generated significant buzz since it was first revealed.
Under this international distribution agreement, Universal Pictures International will take charge of distributing “Michael” across the globe, except for the Japanese market, where a separate distribution arrangement is in place. Lionsgate will continue to represent the film for domestic audiences.
The creative team behind “Michael” promises an impressive cinematic experience. The renowned director Antoine Fuqua is set to helm the project, working with a screenplay crafted by the three-time Oscar nominee, John Logan. Adding to the film’s prestige, Graham King, known for his work on “Bohemian Rhapsody,” will produce alongside John Branca and John McClain, who serve as co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate.
Fans and movie enthusiasts can look forward to the commencement of production once the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to a resolution, making “Michael” one of the most highly-anticipated biopics in recent memory.
