Sylvester Stallone Reflects on Nearly Five Decades in the Film Industry: “The Last of the Dinosaurs”

Sylvester Stallone, the legendary Hollywood action star known for iconic roles in ‘Rocky,’ ‘Rambo,’ and ‘The Expendables,’ has opened up about his nearly 50-year-long career, referring to himself as “the last of the dinosaurs” in the film industry. Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2023, where he was promoting his documentary ‘Sly’ about his life and career, the 77-year-old actor expressed pride in his enduring presence in the world of cinema.

Stallone shared his reflections with ET Canada, stating, “I consider myself like the last of dinosaurs, you know what I mean? And I’m very proud of that.” He went on to discuss the remarkable longevity of his career, acknowledging the changing landscape of the film industry and the increasing demand for speed and commercial success.

“I don’t take it for granted, but I really want to spend it with my loved ones. The majority of what’s left,” Stallone added, highlighting the importance of cherishing time with family.

Despite his immense success, Stallone admitted that as a 10-year-old, he could never have imagined reaching such heights in the film industry. He emphasized the unpredictable nature of his journey, remarking, “Oh, no, no, no, certainly, no, no. I mean, that would be very immodest. It’s like, really, you can’t be prepared for this.”

Stallone also commented on the evolving nature of the film industry, noting the accelerating pace and the premium placed on longevity in a rapidly changing society. “Society is changing, the commerciality in cinema… it’s faster. So longevity would become a premium,” he observed.

The highlight of the event for Stallone was having his family by his side during this special occasion. He reflected on past premieres and promotional tours where he was alone and contrasted it with the support of his loved ones. “This is the best of all,” Stallone stated. “Let’s share… [if there’s not] someone to share life with, life is not worth living.”

Sylvester Stallone’s enduring presence in Hollywood continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, solidifying his status as an iconic figure in the entertainment industry.
