Shah Rukh Khan Celebrates 32 Years in Cinema: Kamal Haasan Praises His Dedication

“Hey Ram” Highlighted SRK’s Passion for Art, Says Kamal Haasan

Shah Rukh Khan, one of the most iconic stars in Indian and global cinema, marks 32 years as a film actor today. His journey began with the release of his debut film “Deewana” on June 25, 1992, and since then, he has continuously captivated audiences, not just with blockbuster hits but also with his daring and unconventional roles. A notable example of this was his role in “Hey Ram” (2000), directed by and starring Kamal Haasan. Shah Rukh Khan played a significant part in the film, which stood out for its bold narrative and artistic ambition.

During the trailer launch of “Hindustani 2” in Mumbai, Kamal Haasan was asked about Shah Rukh Khan’s journey on his 32nd anniversary in the film industry. Reflecting on their collaboration, Kamal Haasan shared insightful anecdotes about Shah Rukh Khan, especially highlighting his dedication and humility.

Kamal Haasan remarked, “Let me speak on behalf of Mr. SRK because I know he would allow me to. When we worked together, we were all just individuals. I didn’t see a superstar, and he didn’t see a super director. We were friends. Shah Rukh saab did ‘Hey Ram’ for free. What more can you ask for?” This revelation was met with spontaneous applause from the audience.

He continued, “Such gestures aren’t typical of a superstar. They come from a true fan, a connoisseur of art, and a talented actor. I am eternally grateful to him.”

Addressing the notion of them both being superstars, Kamal Haasan said, “We don’t see ourselves that way. The titles are given later, and we accept them with humility.”

The “Hindustani 2” trailer launch event also featured co-actor Siddharth and director Shankar, with a surprise appearance by blockbuster director Atlee, whose recent film “Jawan” starred Shah Rukh Khan, showing his support for the upcoming vigilante film.

“Hindustani 2” is set to hit cinemas on July 12, 2024.
