Prakash Jha Teases ‘Gangaajal 3’ and ‘Raajneeti 2’: Will Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor Return?
The Acclaimed Filmmaker Hints at Sequels to His Iconic Films While Shedding Light on Bollywood’s Changing Dynamics

Prakash Jha, known for his gripping narratives and unique storytelling, enjoys admiration from both the masses and cinephiles alike. It’s been a while since the acclaimed director delivered a major cinematic release. With Bollywood currently dominated by franchise fever, fans are thrilled at the possibility of Jha revisiting his classics. In a recent interview, Jha revealed plans for sequels to Gangaajal and Raajneeti, while also addressing the involvement of stars like Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor.
Over the years, Gangaajal has become a cult classic, with Ajay Devgn’s portrayal of Amit Kumar hailed as one of Bollywood’s finest depictions of a cop. While its spiritual successor, Jai Gangaajal featuring Priyanka Chopra, failed to recreate the original’s magic, Jha is determined to revive the franchise with a fresh narrative. Speaking about the third installment, he shared that the script is ready and will focus on a new character—a head constable—offering a completely different perspective.

As for Raajneeti, Jha plans to craft a direct sequel to the political drama that starred Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, and Nana Patekar. Elaborating on the storyline, he said, “The second part is an extension of the first movie. Samar Pratap [Ranbir’s character] has gone abroad, but he remains integral to the story.”
When asked if Ajay and Ranbir would reprise their roles, Jha expressed uncertainty, highlighting how Bollywood’s dynamics have shifted over the years. “A decade ago, you could meet the actor directly, narrate the story, and convince them. Now, actors don’t read scripts themselves. Their assistants and managers do, and you have to go through multiple layers of management to even reach them,” he noted.
However, the filmmaker emphasized that he would approach the stars if their involvement felt essential to the projects, saying, “If there is a project, they will be contacted, but I am not in regular touch with them.”
While it remains unclear if Ajay and Ranbir will return to these franchises, audiences eagerly await Prakash Jha’s signature storytelling, which blends raw intensity with grounded realism. A sequel to either Gangaajal or Raajneeti could once again redefine the landscape of Indian cinema.
