Minions : Rise of Gru to hit theatres again
The prequel of Despicable Me – Minions: The Rise of Gru had its ending banned in China to promote a message against crime. The viewers, however, have expressed their displeasure with the censoring on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. The movie ended with ( Spoiler Alert ) Gru riding off with Wild Knuckles, who had successfully faked his own death to escape capture.
According to Bloomberg, the Chinese version of the movie ended with Wild Knuckles being apprehended after a botched heist and imprisoned for 20 years. He also established a theatre troupe after developing a “passion of performing” while inside. Gru, however, decided to stop being a supervillain and “returned to his family.” This runs counter to both Minions: The Rise of Gru and the Despicable Me franchise’s debut movie, which depicts Gru changing his mind and giving up crime after adopting three daughters.
