“Kalki 2898 AD,” directed by Nag Ashwin, is an ambitious Indian epic science fiction action film that has garnered significant attention for its star-studded cast and high production values. Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, the film draws inspiration from Hindu eschatology, particularly the concept of Kalki, the prophesied tenth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. This narrative forms the backbone of the plot, which envisions a future where humanity battles against demonic forces. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, with notable contributions from Disha Patani and Dulquer Salmaan.
The production of “Kalki 2898 AD” is noted for its use of cutting-edge technology and elaborate set designs, emphasizing a futuristic aesthetic. Much of the filming took place in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, where high-tech gadgets and vehicles were custom-built to enhance the film’s authenticity. The film’s budget, estimated at ₹600 crore (approximately $72 million), makes it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
The first look was unveiled at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con, marking a significant milestone as it became the first Indian film to be presented at the prestigious event. The teaser and promotional materials have created a buzz, highlighting the film’s grand scale and the intriguing portrayal of legendary characters in a futuristic setting.
