Historical Drama – ‘Firebrand’ starring actors Jude Law and Alicia Vikander, Receives Standing Ovation

The historical drama “Firebrand,” starring actors Jude Law and Alicia Vikander, received a standing ovation that lasted more than eight minutes on Sunday at the Cannes film festival 2023.

The penultimate wife of Henry VIII, Catherine Parr, was a formidable feminist figure who outlived the infamous king; the fate of his wives was either divorce, death, or beheading, according to report, a US-based media organization. She is portrayed in the historical drama “Firebrand” by Oscar winner Vikander.

The women who didn’t make it have generally been dramatized, Vikander recently told Variety. I thought, ‘Huh, isn’t it odd that most people know more about the other spouses,’ as soon as I started reading the script. It almost seems as though people are drawn to very bleak stories.

With the monarch at war abroad, she was appointed Regent and has done everything in her power to push for a new future based on her extreme Protestant convictions. Law performs a royal on his way out after returning from a bout with a severely damaged right leg. There is a lot of palace intrigue, including Henry’s conflict with the Seymour brothers, one of whom has Catherine in his sights, and the king’s eventual decline.

The film’s screenplay was written by Henrietta Ashworth, Jessica Ashworth, and Brazilian-Argentinean director Karim Ainouz. With Firebrand, Ainouz makes his English-language debut.

According to reports, Ainouz’s previous Cannes films include “Invisible Life,” which took home the Un Certain Regard prize in 2019, and “Mariner of the Mountains,” which had its world premiere there in 2021.
