Gigi Hadid Auditioned for Rapunzel — and Disney’s Tangled Live-Action Is Now on Pause

In Vogue’s October 2025 cover story, Hadid opens up about her quietly pursued acting ambitions—including an ‘audition scene’ for Tangled. Meanwhile, Disney has indefinitely shelved the project following the financial backlash of Snow White.

In the brand-new October 2025 issue of Vogue, supermodel Gigi Hadid candidly shared her unexpected leap into acting. Inspired by her nearly two-year relationship with Bradley Cooper, Hadid revealed she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in Disney’s planned live-action Tangled. She even balanced singing lessons with fashion month—in pursuit of a fairy-tale moment. Though the part went to a professional singer, Hadid said she was “really proud of my scene,” and cheekily promised Kendall Jenner she’d eventually show her the tape.

Hadid also pondered the nature of their shared profession, asking Jenner, “What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” Her earnest leap into auditioning, she admitted, was fueled by Cooper’s creative encouragement, a dynamic she described as “very romantic and happy.”

Meanwhile, Disney’s ambitions for Tangled have hit a roadblock. As of April 2025, the live-action remake—once slated to be helmed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey with a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson—has been suspended indefinitely. The decision came in the wake of the hefty box office failure of its live-action Snow White, which grossed just $145 million worldwide against a $270 million budget, and triggered public backlash over casting and creative choices.

At present, the future of Tangled remains uncertain. Disney, while recalibrating its live-action strategy, continues to move forward with other projects including the recently successful Lilo & Stitch remake and a Moana adaptation set for release in mid-2026.
