Elizabeth Olsen Embraces Indie Cinema Again, Confirms No Return for Upcoming Avengers Films
The Marvel star discusses her latest sci-fi film The Assessment, her evolving artistic choices, and why she’s stepping away from the MCU—for now.

In a recent interview, Elizabeth Olsen discussed her role in the upcoming sci-fi thriller “The Assessment,” directed by Fleur Fortuné. The film, set in a dystopian future, follows a couple, portrayed by Olsen and Himesh Patel, who undergo a rigorous evaluation by an assessor, played by Alicia Vikander, to determine their suitability for parenthood.
Olsen expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its unique narrative and the opportunity to collaborate with Vikander and Fortuné. She compared the film’s intriguing premise to that of “The Lobster,” noting her appreciation for stories that establish their own set of rules and challenge conventional storytelling.

Regarding her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Olsen confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, in the upcoming films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” She explained that her current commitments, including filming the FX pilot “Seven Sisters,” directed by Sean Durkin, prevent her involvement in these projects.
Olsen expressed excitement about reuniting with Durkin, with whom she previously collaborated on “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” and emphasized her desire to pursue roles that align with her personal artistic tastes outside of the Marvel franchise.
