Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll Not Returning in ‘DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN’.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Jon Bernthal is returning to his most punishing role. The actor will reprise Frank Castle, aka antihero the Punisher, in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+. Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which begins shooting in New York this month. In a departure from other Marvel series, which come in at six or nine episodes per season, Born Again is planned as a whopping 18-episode epic. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind the show, which is expected to bow in the spring of 2024.

Born Again is said to be a continuation of the first Daredevil series, but with Marvel being its usual secretive self, the plotline remains unknown even as the show is gearing up to enter production in the coming weeks. What is known regarding the show’s plot is that it will be based on a titular 1980s storyline from the comics. However, it seems Marvel has a few surprises up its sleeves with the addition of The Punisher, who was originally not part of the story. Said story was a classic good vs evil tale, with Daredevil facing off against the Kingpin.

According to THR’s Aaron Couch, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, are not on the roll call for the Marvel series, and “it is unclear whether those characters will be recast or excised from the story.”Rumors that both actors were set to reprise their roles did the rounds last year, but it may have been yet another case of internet grifters throwing possibilities at the wall to see if they’d stick. Both Foggy and Karen are pretty significant parts of Matt Murdock’s life in the comics, although they don’t feature in every story. Even so, it would be seen as a somewhat unusual move if they didn’t factor into Born Again in some capacity, so they may well be recast.

Daredevil: Born Again will make up Phase 5 of the MCU and is expected to release on Disney+ in the spring of 2024. Season 1 will include 18 episodes, which is a big shift from the current slate of MCU shows with none having episode count in double digits. Daredevil was extremely popular on Netflix and Disney is counting on the popularity to stream roll Phase 5 which has been off to a rough start with Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania not doing great at the box office
