Diljit Dosanjh talks about Jogi

After a very lengthy absence, Diljit Dosanjh is making a comeback in Bollywood. Jogi, his most recent release, is his first Bollywood movie in over two years. Based on actual events during the anti-Sikh riots that followed Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s death in 1984, Jogi stars Diljit as a regular guy who gets caught up in the riots. The singer-turned-actor speaks exclusively to Hindustan Times about the movie, his songs, and being picky in Bollywood.

In 2014, the actor appeared in the Punjabi film Punjab 1984. When asked why he decided to make another movie on the same subject, Diljit responds, “That era offers a lot of stories. Punjab served as the setting for the movie I made. This incident occurred in Delhi. The environment and plot are extremely dissimilar. It was a completely different situation, and I believed that takes like this needed to be told and heard by the audience as well. Such tales have never been previously told.
