Daisy Ridley Hopes for Finn’s Return in Upcoming Star Wars Film
New Star Wars Movie to Explore Rey’s Revival of the Jedi Order, Boyega’s Return Remains Uncertain

Daisy Ridley is optimistic about the possibility of reuniting with John Boyega in the upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Confirmed to reprise her role as Rey, Ridley will star in a story set fifteen years after The Rise of Skywalker. The plot will focus on Rey’s efforts to revive the Jedi Order, sparking speculation about Boyega’s potential return as Finn. Throughout the sequel trilogy, especially in The Rise of Skywalker, Finn’s latent Force-sensitivity was hinted at, leading fans to wonder if he will join Rey’s new Jedi Order.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley expressed her enthusiasm about the idea of Boyega’s return, although she did not confirm it. She is currently the only actor confirmed for the new Star Wars film, which will take place after the Skywalker saga’s conclusion. Finn’s close relationship with Rey, his emerging Force abilities, and the mixed reception to his character arc in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker make his potential comeback an intriguing possibility.

Although Finn has not yet become a Jedi in the official Star Wars canon, he trains under Rey and communicates with Force ghosts in non-canon LEGO Star Wars specials. These portrayals have made the idea of Finn becoming a Jedi even more enticing. The new movie centered on Rey’s revival of the Jedi Order seems like the perfect opportunity to solidify Finn’s status as a Jedi within the canon, providing a satisfying resolution to the hints of his Force-sensitivity.
With the fifteen-year gap since The Rise of Skywalker, Finn might already be a full-fledged Jedi who has trained with Rey and developed a strong connection with the Force. This scenario could see Rey and Finn as co-leaders, guiding a new generation of Jedi. Alternatively, the story might depict Finn beginning his Jedi training, possibly due to his efforts in tracking down First Order remnants or aiding the reestablishment of the New Republic.
Finn’s return would make narrative sense, but it ultimately depends on Boyega’s willingness to rejoin the franchise. Boyega has been vocal about the racist attacks he endured following his casting as Finn and his dissatisfaction with his character’s development after The Force Awakens. While he has expressed openness to returning to Star Wars, it would be understandable if he chose not to come back.
