Bollywood Icon Shah Rukh Khan Finally Wins First‑Ever National Film Award for Jawan
After 33 years in the industry, SRK shares the 71st National Film Award for Best Actor with Vikrant Massey and dedicates his emotional victory to his team, family, and millions of fans.

After more than three decades of redefining Bollywood stardom, Shah Rukh Khan has finally received his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan. The recognition comes as part of the 71st National Film Awards, where he shared the honour with Vikrant Massey, who won for 12th Fail.
In a heartfelt video posted on social media, Shah Rukh—dressed casually in a black tee, white beanie, and with his right arm in a medical sling—thanked the jury and his fans, calling the award a deeply emotional and humbling moment.
“Namaskaar and adaab. Needless to say, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility to be honoured with the National Award. I will cherish this for a lifetime,” he said. He extended special thanks to his collaborators from 2023: “Thank you, Raju Sir. Thank you, Sid. And most importantly, thank you Atlee Sir and the entire Jawan team for believing in me.”
Khan didn’t forget his behind-the-scenes team, crediting them for their relentless support and patience: “They bear with my eccentricities and impatience, and always make me look much better than I am. This award wouldn’t be possible without their love and perseverance.”

He also got personal, thanking wife Gauri and his children for their unconditional love: “They treat me like the child in the house and give me all the care, even when my obsession with cinema pulls me away.”
Reflecting on the bigger meaning of the win, SRK added, “This award is not just about achievement—it’s a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep learning, and keep giving back to cinema. Acting isn’t just a job—it’s a responsibility.”
In his signature witty style, he concluded by addressing his fans: “Thank you for the cheers and tears. This award is for you. I would love to spread my arms for you all, but I’m a bit indisposed. Don’t worry—just keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back in theatres and on streaming… with one hand ‘ready’!”
Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury, the I&B ministry… Iss samman ke liye Bharat Sarkar ka dhanyawaad. Overwhelmed with the love showered upon me. Half a hug to everyone today…. pic.twitter.com/PDiAG9uuzo

Why This Win Matters
Long overdue recognition: Despite iconic performances in films like Swades, Chak De! India, and My Name Is Khan, this marks SRK’s first-ever National Film Award.
Shared win with Vikrant Massey: The joint win with a younger talent like Massey reflects the evolving face of Indian cinema.
A defining year: With three major releases in 2023—Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki—SRK delivered a historic comeback, and Jawan stood out as a milestone moment in his career.
Resilience and relevance: Even after 33 years, SRK remains a box-office king and now, finally, a nationally recognised actor.
As he recovers from injuries sustained during the shoot of his upcoming film King, Shah Rukh Khan’s message is clear: he’s not done yet. With this win, he adds a new jewel to his already glittering crown—and promises that the best is still to come.
