Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla’s 7-Year Cold War: From Silent Sets to Rekindled Friendship
Despite delivering hits together, Aamir and Juhi didn’t speak for years due to a fallout during Ishq — a rift that ended with a heartfelt phone call during Aamir’s lowest phase.

They debuted together in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), became one of Bollywood’s most-loved onscreen couples, and shared the spotlight in cult classics like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Ishq. But behind their effortless chemistry, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla shared a silent tension for nearly seven years — a fallout that began on set and spilled into their offscreen lives.
The revelation came straight from Aamir himself during a candid chat with entrepreneur Raj Shamani on his podcast. While introspecting about his own flaws, Aamir admitted to being emotionally stubborn, even with people close to him. “Juhi aur mera jhagda hua, aur humne saath saal baat nahi ki,” Aamir revealed. Despite Juhi’s attempts to make amends, and even his then-wife Reena suggesting he let go, Aamir refused to speak to her — not even during ongoing shoots.
The tension reportedly began during the filming of Ishq (1996), when Aamir and co-star Ajay Devgn played a prank that didn’t sit well with Juhi. Hurt by the incident, Juhi reportedly walked off set. Aamir took offense to her reaction, and what followed was a prolonged period of silent professionalism. “Even if she came and sat next to me, I would walk away. I wouldn’t greet her or say goodbye. We only spoke when the script demanded,” Aamir shared during promotions for his documentary Rubaru Roshni.

It wasn’t until 2002 — when Aamir was going through an emotionally turbulent phase post his divorce from Reena — that Juhi reached out. Knowing well he might not even take her call, Juhi still tried, and Aamir, touched by her gesture, finally responded. That phone call became the turning point that mended their fractured friendship. “We hadn’t talked in years, but we had continued to care for each other,” Aamir said.
Since then, the two have remained good friends.
On the professional front, Aamir Khan is basking in the success of Sitaare Zameen Par, which released on June 20, 2025. Despite a slow start, the film has seen massive growth due to positive word-of-mouth, raking in ₹105.17 crore in just three days. It also marks Aamir’s strong return after his back-to-back disappointments with Thugs of Hindostan (2018) and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022).
