Review
The story of Mister Mummy follows a man who has grown to hate children due to his upbringing and his wife, who is anxiously trying to have a baby. But suppose they both became pregnant at the same time; what then? The disease of “Couvade Syndrome or sympathetic pregnancy,” in which a man has many of the same symptoms as a pregnant woman, including changes in appetite, nausea, insomnia, and weight gain, is the real focus of this quirky comedy. Although it runs for 98 minutes, this film accomplishes neither entertainment nor education.

It is horrible to imagine a man’s belly expanding to accommodate a growing baby. Experiencing the actual sight of a pregnant man is even more repulsive. This turns the intended joke into an incredibly annoying horror show. Dialogues by Ananya Sharma are standard fare. People will generally dismiss Mister Mummy as a bad idea from the get-go. It will be widely panned and possibly even teased.

Co-written by Ananya Sharma and Shaad Ali, the film’s director makes feeble attempts to enrich the narrative. We have a lot of material to work with: a pregnant man, a troubled marriage, and an unwanted pregnancy. However, more needs to be developed sufficiently to be compelling. The majority of the scenes are also very similar to one another. The humor is primarily forced, and apart from Amol talking to himself, it doesn’t work. As a concept, it’s intriguing, but the execution leaves much to be desired.

The character played by Genelia D’Souza is always likable whenever she makes a screen appearance, but she does not provide anything novel to the show. Riteish Deshmukh, whose comedic timing is immaculate, makes an extraordinary effort to make it work this time, but unfortunately, he cannot save the sinking ship. The charming chemistry between Genelia and Riteish is rendered ineffective without an exciting narrative. The character of Dr Satsangi, portrayed by Mahesh Manjrekar, provides some comedic moments.

Rating – 3 out of 5 stars. Shaad Ali brings his traditional approach to filmmaking, which he does not feel the need to modernize or adapt to serve a more compelling narrative; it simply exists.
Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Mahesh Manjrekar, and many others have been featured in supporting parts in Mister Mummy. Shaad Ali helmed the film, and he and Shiva Ananth produced it under the labels A Hectic Cinema Pvt. Ltd. and T-Series. On November 18, 2022, it was released to theaters. The OTT release date will be announced once the film has been seen in theaters.
