PLOT

A movie star Maanav Khurrana’s( Ayushmann Khurrana ) escape from the nation while being pursued by a furious politician after being accused of murder turns his life into an eccentric action thriller.

REVIEW

In his first film as a director, Anirudh Iyer explores celebrity culture and the fleeting nature of fame. This 132-minute action-packed drama is a straightforward tale of revenge. Still, the screenplay twists it into a detailed account of a superstar who finds himself in an extraordinary circumstance. It is a fleshy tale, and Iyer, who co-wrote the movie with Neeraj Yadav, mostly keeps a steady hold on the story.

Ayushmann Khurrana appears in the movie as a previously unseen character. Here, in contrast to his earlier socially conscious films, he plays Maanav, a beefy Bollywood action superstar who flaunts his fame.

Most of the first half is devoted to Iyer’s plot setup, which takes a little too long. The pace ramps up in the second half, though, and the movie turns into a full-on action movie with many hooks. The issue is that the film’s periodic cast of people that don’t significantly increase the drama but instead make the running time longer is a significant flaw.

The movie’s narrative is kept together by Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat. Therefore they steal the show. Ayushmann has enough room to express the many facets of his Maanav character, who is both a powerful, arrogant, and flashy presence onscreen and vulnerable when fate forces him to live like a regular guy trying to flee for his life. He works hard to make Maanav seem appealing. The actor’s physical metamorphosis for the movie is apparent and authenticates his action-hero persona.

The Haryanvi accent and performance of Jaideep are flawless. Although his character lacks substance, he delivers some of the movie’s funniest punches. Because of the goodness in his nature, there is some ambiguity in his behaviour, which heightens the comedy in the scenes. It has a good balance of humour and action and several amusing conversations.

Dance performances by Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi to “Aap Jaisa Koi” and “Jehda Nasha,” respectively, provide some extra vigour. The background music enhances the current drama and establishes the movie’s mood.

Rating – Three out of five stars.

Observing Ayushmann Khurrana assume the role of an action hero and display his might on screen is more exciting than the tale in the film “An Action Hero.” You may visit the theater for that.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Aanand L. Rai, the movie is directed by Anirudh Iyer. Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat are responsible for the significant roles. On December 2, 2022, the film was released in theaters. Netflix purchased the digital rights, which became available on January 27, 2023.
