Pankaj Tripathi Highlights PR Challenges Facing ‘Laapataa Ladies’ Newcomers

Despite critical acclaim and audience appreciation, emerging actors from Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ struggle with visibility due to lack of robust public relations support, notes veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi.

Veteran actor Pankaj Tripathi has recently shed light on the challenges faced by emerging talents in the film industry, particularly those lacking strong public relations (PR) support. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Tripathi praised the performances of newcomers Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in Kiran Rao’s film ‘Laapataa Ladies’, acknowledging their ability to resonate deeply with audiences. However, he pointed out that these actors often struggle to gain broader recognition due to the absence of a robust PR machinery.

Tripathi noted that while these newcomers have successfully connected with viewers through their compelling performances, they lack the media exposure that established actors enjoy. He emphasized that without the backing of experienced PR teams, it’s challenging for emerging artists to have their work widely acknowledged and celebrated.

‘Laapataa Ladies’, which tells the story of two young brides who are mistakenly swapped during a train journey, has been lauded for its storytelling and performances. The film, produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Kiran Rao, premiered at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival and was India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, although it did not make the shortlist.

Despite the film’s success and the actors’ commendable performances, Tripathi’s comments highlight a systemic issue in the industry where talent alone may not suffice without adequate promotional support. He advocates for creating more opportunities and platforms for new artists to showcase their work and gain the recognition they deserve.
