Witching Hour Returns: Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman Begin Filming ‘Practical Magic 2’ After 26 Years

The Owens sisters reunite with a star-studded new cast as Warner Bros. sets a 2026 release date for the magical sequel, now filming under director Susanne Bier.

More than two decades after casting their last spell together, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are officially back as the Owens sisters in Practical Magic 2. The long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1998 cult classic has kicked off production, with Bullock and Kidman once again stepping into the shoes of Sally and Gillian Owens—two witchy siblings navigating love, loss, and supernatural forces.

In a behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram, Nicole Kidman teased fans with the caption: “The witches are back. Owens sisters’ first day on set!” The clip shows a heartwarming moment as she and Bullock embrace in a cemetery while filming in full costume. “Turns out we have a lot of work to do,” Bullock says playfully during the scene, bringing fans right back into the magical world they adored.

Following Deadline’s June 2024 report that the sequel was moving forward, it’s now confirmed that original cast members Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will reprise their roles as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances—adding even more nostalgic power to the film.

The sequel also brings in a fresh ensemble of stars including Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace, Game of Thrones alum Maisie Williams, Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña, Tom Jones breakout Solly McLeod, and The Kissing Booth’s Joey King, who is set to play one of Sally’s daughters.

Helming the magical follow-up is acclaimed Danish director Susanne Bier (The Night Manager, Bird Box), with a script co-written by Akiva Goldsman—who also worked on the original—and Georgia Pritchett (Succession, Veep). Warner Bros. has officially slated Practical Magic 2 for a theatrical release on September 18, 2026.

Fans can expect a mix of old enchantments and new energy as the Owens family returns to face yet another chapter of love, legacy, and a bit of well-timed chaos.
